O’Grady, who passed away in March aged 67, had been a passionate ambassador for Battersea since 2012. He won millions of hearts on ITV’s award-winning show For The Love Of Dogs, championing the welfare of rescue animals.

£480,000 Raised for Paul O’Grady Charity Fund

After his death, Battersea set up a tribute fund that has raised an impressive £480,000 so far. From this, £100,000 will support five other animal charities close to Paul’s heart.

Helping out are groups from O’Grady’s hometown of Liverpool, including Freshfields Animal Rescue, Carla Lane Animals In Need, and The Oldies Club. Also benefiting are StreetVet, which cares for pets of the homeless, and the RSPCA Ashford Garden Cattery, where Paul served as president.

Family and Battersea Praise Paul’s Legacy

“Seeing how loved Paul was by so many has been truly touching. Paul was so passionate in his support of rescue animals, and it gives me some comfort to know that through the hard work and commitment of Battersea and other charities, Paul’s legacy will live on.” – Andre Portasio, Paul O’Grady’s husband

Peter Laurie, Chief Executive of Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, added: “It really is a testament to how loved Paul was, and we shall always be forever grateful for everything he did for us.”

Laurie also highlighted Paul’s incredible impact during his 11 years on For The Love Of Dogs, where he tirelessly raised awareness for vulnerable animals.

A Lasting Legacy for Animal Welfare

Naming the new veterinary hospital after Paul O’Grady is a fitting tribute to the man who devoted his life to animal welfare. His compassion and advocacy continue to live on in the hearts of many, ensuring his legacy will never be forgotten.
