Cop Charged with Dangerous Driving After 2020 Streatham Terror Response Crash
A Metropolitan Police officer has been hit with dangerous driving charges following a crash during the 2020 Streatham terror attack response. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) revealed PC Paul Fisher was involved in a collision with three cars and a garden wall while driving his unmarked police vehicle.
Chaos on Streatham Common North
The smash happened on February 2, 2020, at Streatham Common North. PC Fisher, 45, who serves with the Met’s Specialist Firearms Command, allegedly drove dangerously before losing control. He now faces court on August 22 at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.
Terror Incident Background
The crash occurred amidst a tense terror incident when 20-year-old Sudesh Amman was shot dead by undercover officers. Amman had stolen a knife and randomly attacked the public, even wearing a fake suicide vest on Streatham High Road.
Prosecution Details
The IOPC confirmed the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) authorised the dangerous driving charge after a lengthy investigation wrapped in May 2021, following a Met referral in February 2021. A second officer in a marked vehicle nearby escaped charges as CPS pursued no further action against him.
