King’s Cross Thief Nabbed: Two Years Behind Bars for Serial Snatcher
Hasani Chakron, 27, from King’s Cross Road, Islington, has been locked up for two years after pleading guilty to a spree of phone and bag thefts on the London Underground and in city pubs. His crime wave left lone women on the Tube and bar-goers shaken and out of pocket.
Terrifying Spree on the Tube and Pubs
Chakron, part of a gang known for targeting vulnerable passengers, made off with five phones, three bags, and a laptop. The crook lurked on platforms and Tube carriages, preying on unsuspecting victims.
Prosecutor Matilda Robinson-Murphy described how one victim had her phone ripped away by Chakron and his gang as they bolted off the carriage.
In a brazen move on the Piccadilly Line, Chakron lunged at a woman to snatch her phone mid-journey. Most thefts happened between December 2020 and January 2021, mainly on the Piccadilly and Jubilee lines.
Arrest, Denials, and More Theft
Chakron was caught on January 3, 2021, but tried to dodge blame, admitting only to holding a stolen phone for a mate. His dodgy behaviour didn’t stop there. In July 2022, he swiped a laptop from a Costa Coffee employee at Finsbury Station – but was caught and forced to hand it back after being filmed.
Chakron’s spree carried on into late 2022, stealing bags from city bars and pubs. When arrested again, he first claimed he was abroad but later admitted guilt in nine thefts and two attempted thefts.
From Addiction to prison cell
Defence barrister James Higbee told the court Chakron’s crimes stemmed from a crack cocaine addiction. “He’s now drug-free after rehab while in custody,” Higbee said. He added Chakron had struggled economically as he wasn’t allowed to work in the UK but stressed, “Nobody should resort to what he did.”
Judge Rosina Cottage KC slammed Chakron’s actions as traumatising victims and sentenced him to two years behind bars, ending his reign of terror on London’s streets and underground.
