UPDATED VIDEO AND PICTURES A249 Gridlocked with hundred trapped after Van ploughs into Central barrier

The A249 is gridlock with 5- 7 miles of stationary traffic after a White Ford transit van ploughed into the central barrier during Thursday evenings rush hour commute home.

Hundreds of vehicles are currently stranded of the dual carrier to join the M2 and to access the A249 to Sittingbourne and the Isle of Sheppey on the Stockbridge roundabout.

Emergency service have been called to the incident along with Police recovery contractors. All roads on the approach are solid with nose to nose vehicle as drivers have no option than to sit it out.

Paramedics attended along with officers from Kent Roads Policing. The driver escaped serious injury more than can be said about his vehicle that ended up on the barrier.
