Detectives investigating the murder of a man in South Hampstead have released his image and confirmed his identity as 20-year-old Abdullahi Hassan

Detectives investigating the murder of a man in South Hampstead have released his image and confirmed his identity as 20-year-old Abdullahi Hassan.

Police were called at around 11.45pm on Thursday, 25 July, to Ainsworth House, Boundary Road, NW8, where Abdullahi and a 22-year-old man were found with stab injuries.

Both men were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service [LAS] for treatment but Abdullahi was pronounced dead at 00:37hrs.

Officers informed his next of kin, who are being supported by specialist officers.

A post-mortem examination took place on Saturday, 27 July and gave the cause of death as a stab wound to the chest.

The 22-year-old man was not critically injured. He remains in hospital in a serious, but stable condition.

Police were subsequently called by members of the public at 00:01hrs on Friday, 26 July, to Lancefield Street, W10, where a 20-year-old man was found with a stab wound to the leg.

Officers and LAS attended. The injured male was taken to hospital by LAS where his condition has since been confirmed as non-life threatening.

Enquiries continue to establish the link between the two incidents.

Detectives are linking another incident that took place five hours earlier in the NW8 area. At about 17:00hrs on Thursday, 25 July a fight broke out in the entrance to South Hampstead Rail Station on Loudon Road. Several men were involved. No one is reported to have been seriously injured.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Stancombe from the Met’s Specialist Crime team is leading the investigation. He said: “In releasing Abdullahi’s image we hope it may remind someone of seeing him or his killers’ at the scene and that their information may help to bring justice for Abdullahi’s family who now have to deal with his loss.

“Whilst I am appealing for any information, I am specifically keen to hear about what happened at the earlier altercation at South Hampstead station. It was during rush hour on the hottest day of the year. Were you in the area? Did you see the fight or hear what was happening?

“Please contact us and tell us what you saw; if you are worried about speaking to police, please be assured that we can work with you in the utmost confidence and sensitivity. We need your help to piece together the events of that day.”

Police have arrested five men aged between 20 and 23 years on suspicion of attempted murder and charged one for murder and attempted murder.
