Man dies after being pulled from the sea at Sandown on the Isle of Wight

A man has tragically died after being pulled from the sea at Sandown on the Isle of Wight last night (Sunday).

Emergency services were called to Eastern Gardens beach off Culver Parade shortly after 8pm

Despite the best efforts of members of the public, local paramedics, doctors from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance and officers from Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team, the gentleman’s life could not be saved.

The man – thought to be in his 50 or 60s – is understood to have been pronounced dead at St Mary’s Hospital after being rushed in under Police escort.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has said:

“We are aware of the sudden death of a man at Culver Parade, Sandown on the evening of Sunday, 28 July.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner”.

The incident comes just a month after another man died after being pulled from the sea at nearby Yaverland.
