Victim of Fatal Purley knife attack named

The victim of a fatal stabbing in Croydon has been named as 19-year-old Kye Manning.

Police were called at approximately 9.10pm on Thursday, 11 July to reports of a male stabbed on Brighton Road in Croydon.

Officers, the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance attended. Despite their efforts, Kye died at the scene at 9.50pm.

A post-mortem examination took place on Friday, 12 July. The cause of death was identified as a single stab wound to the heart.

Formal identification has taken place.

A total of five males have been arrested as part of the investigation into the fatal stabbing.

An 18-year-old man who was found nearby suffering from stab injuries. He was taken to a south London hospital where he remains in a stable condition; his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. He was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in hospital.

A 20-year-old man who was found close to Purley Railway Station suffering from a slash wound. He was taken to a south London hospital for treatment; his injuries are not life-threatening. He has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in hospital.

A 17-year-old boy who was arrested near the scene. He has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He is currently in custody at a south London police station.

An 18-year-old man who was arrested near the scene. He has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He is currently in custody at a south London police station.

A 15-year-old boy arrested near the scene. He has been arrested on suspicion of murder and has been released on bail to a date in early August pending further enquiries.

Homicide detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command are investigating in close partnership with police in Croydon.

Detective Chief Inspector John Massey, who is leading the investigation, said: “This is a terrible incident which has resulted in a young man’s life being tragically cut short. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this very difficult time.

“We have made a number of arrests, and my officers and I will continue to work tirelessly to piece together what happened and to bring those responsible to justice. However, we cannot do this alone and I would call on the community to help us solve this heinous crime.

“I would urge anyone who witnessed what took place or anyone with information about those responsible to contact police immediately.
