Manhunt for two continues after hit and run on the Isle of Wight

Hampshire Constabulary is appealing for information following a serious road traffic collision that occurred on Briddlesford Road, near Newport this evening (Thursday).

As  previously Police were called to Briddlesford Road with the junction of Blacklands Lane at just 6pm following reports that a BMW and a Vauxhall Astra had collided.

The driver a woman  of the Astra has since been airlifted to Southampton General Hospital with serious and life-threatening injuries, prompting a full scale investigation to be launched.

Police have spent the evening carrying out their investigation including taking samples of the airbag for DNA analysis after two men flee on foot after the serious collision.

A woman remains in a serious condition at Southampton general hospital.

Despite a major search involving a Police search dog and a helicopter the pair still remain at large.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said:

“We would like to speak with these two men as soon as possible as we are concerned they could be injured, and would like them to assist our enquiries into this collision.

“If you were in the BMW, or you know the occupants, please call us.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting incident 704 of today’s date.
