Second arson probe launched after Sandown care home is torched

A second arson investigation has been launched by Police and the fire service after a second second serious attempt was made to torch a derelict care home in Sandown this lunchtime (Sunday).

Fire fighters and appliances from around the Isle of Wight service are on scene at Stonehaven on Carter Street, at the junction with St Johns Road.

The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue service said they were called after smoke was seen issuing from the building at around 1pm.
Four appliances from Ryde, Sandown and Shanklin have tackling the small fire in the stairwell of the ground floor that is understood to have been started with some sort of excelarant.

Police have sealed of the building.

Local road closures that out in place have since been removed.
