Investigating officer, Detective Constable Matt Webster said: “This was clearly a distressing incident for the young victim and we commend her bravery in coming forward.

“Given the time and location of the offence, I am sure people witnessed the incident in question, be it they were driving home or walking home from school.

“I would urge anyone who may have seen anything to come forward and talk to us so we can further our investigations.

“I would like to also stress that this appears to be an isolated incident and there is no wider risk to the public.”
