Firefighters called to Waste Recovery Park following an explosion

Five fire appliances from stations across the Isle of Wight have been called to a fire at the Isle of Wight Recycling centre on Forest Road on the outskirts of Newport.

The site has been put on lock down whilst firefighters carry out an investigation following a small explosion and a hopper catching fire.
Before arrival of the fire service staff at the site tackled a small fire.

Three appliances from Newport and Cowes and the aerial ladder platform and a command and control unit from Newport are currently at the incident.

When crews arrived and alarm was sounding within the recycling hall. Crew commanders are now working with staff to try and locate what has caused the alarm to sound.

Following an investigation using a thermal imaging camera a hose reel was used to cool what is understood to have been a hot spot following a small explosion that set light to a rubbish hopper within the recycling hall Fire commanders have now deamed the area safe and have handed the site back to site staff.
No one is understood to have been hurt
Crews are now making up and are mobile to home stations.
