Andover lock down to remain over night

Firefighters are continuing to manage the incident at the Ocado Andover CFC site. The existing evacuation zone remains in force overnight whilst toxic chemicals are removed from the site. Despite foul weather crews are continuing to make the area safe and remove fuel in the path of the fire.

Fire chiefs have held a command meeting to establish how they will continue to tackle the blaze.

There are still concerns that a large cylinder containing refrigerant gas in it could explode.

More than 300 firefighters have been tackling the blaze.

Properties in the following roads are within the 500 metre exclusion zone around the Ocado warehouse:
Bailey Close, Mundy Road, Adams Road, Ox Drove, Strapp Road, Chaplin Way, Errington Road, Walworth Road.

These properties will be visited by members of the emergency services regarding evacuation following the fire. Harrow Way Community School is open as a rest centre.

Ocado said the fire, which started in a corner of the “ambient grid” where the robots operate, has caused substantial damage to the majority of the building and its contents. Part of the roof has also collapsed.

Hampshire fire have said further information will be available in the morning, including when the exclusion zone will be lifted.
