A massive and very challenging fire that kept getting more complex

“A massive and very challenging fire that kept getting more complex” The words of deputy fire Chief Andy Bowers after he spent a third night overseeing the daunting task of trying to make Ocado warehouse in Andover safe.

Chief Fire officer Neil Odbin from Hampshire Fire and Rescue has already revealed that the fire has spread into a second building on the site and efforts to extinguish the blaze are hampered due to the internals and dangers within the multi-million-pound warehouse.

People from nearby 20 Homes have spent the night away at hotels set up by Ocado.

Walworth Industrial Estate still remains under lockdown and a no go area to the public as many businesses have been forced to remain closed as the fire spread to the second building.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue have been tackling the fire along with removing chemicals from the tanks housed within the warehouse overnight.

This comes after a risk of a toxic release or a large cylinder explosion was on the cards.

Over three hundred firefighters from Hampshire, Dorset, Wiltshire,Surrey, Kent, Thames Valley, Kent and Hertfordshire have been dealing with the protracted and very complex incident. Fire crews are likely to remain at the site for weeks.
