Driver makes off from Police after chase through Bluebell Meadow Estate

A man has crashed his car and made off from Police following a high-speed chase through the Bluebell Meadow Estate in Newport this lunchtime.

Armed officers were chasing the man in the black car Mazda 3 after being drawn to the space saver wheel being used on the vehicle. Officers were going to an unrelated incident on the estate when the vehicle made off on Garden Way in Newport. The man drove over a footpath and fled the vehicle and has gone to ground in gardens on Godric Road on the Bluebells estate.

A containment has been put in place by officers as they attempt to flush out the man. Police know who the man is after the driver left the keys and his mobile phone in the car and the wife of the driver came running over to police asking what her partner had done.

Officers have carried out a search of the vehicle and checked a cardboard box containing garden furniture

Two women with pushchair narrowly escaped being hit by the vehicle after the driver lept and made off with the vehicle still moving.

PC Green from the Joint armed response unit from Hampshire Constabulary is appealing for the woman in their twenties to contact him

Anyone with information is asked to call Police on 101 quoting incident 481.
