Two Sex Offender who Barricaded Cell at HMP Albany brought to a peaceful end

Two sex offenders within the HM Prison estate at Albany on the Isle of Wight have given up to staff peacefully after barricaded themselves inside a cell and refusing to come out as a protest over the loss of privileges and a stopped visit.

The situation at the understaffed jail with Albany unfolded on Tuesday evening (11th September 2018). Other parts of the prison were placed on lockdown and evening association and phone calls were all cancelled

A trained negotiator spoke with the pair who are understood to be serving long sentences for approx three hours before they themselves up. Both will now face internal prison charges. It is understood that the pair have been placed in the prison punishment block and Officer from Hampshire Constabulary have been called in to investigate that matter

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice:

“Prison Staff at a local level and the Governor have successfully resolved an incident involving two prisoners at HMP Isle of Wight yesterday, without physical intervention. The matter will now be investigated ”
