A Southampton street in on lockdown with officers guarding a cordon as sixty firefighters tackle a fire that has ripped through a derelict building in the city this evening we can reveal.
Eight fire appliances from across Hampshire have been called to the well-developed fire that has ripped through the former walkabout on the High Street.
Emergency services were called to the blaze just after 7pm on Wednesday evening. This is the second time in a matter of months that crews have been called to the building that was set on fire deliberately. An ongoing arson investigation was launched by Hampshire Fire and Rescue and Hampshire Police. It is understood that the build was being lived in by a number of homeless people who’d taken up resident.
No one is understood to be unaccounted for. Fire fighters are likely to remain for some time. Drivers are being advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes
