Police searching for man with an axe in Northend of Portsmouth

Police have launched a manhunt in the Northend and Stamshaw area of Portsmouth after a man has been seen to have got off the Stagecoach 700 bus at Ophir Road with an axe. The highly intoxicated male looked like he had been in some sort of fight. The man in his mid 30’s was wearing a maroon puffa jacket.
Police have also contacted the Stamshaw leisure advising staff to be on their guard.


Officers from Hampshire Constabulary are understood to be making enquiries in an attempt to locate the man. Officers are continuing to carry out an area search for the man after a concerned resident who got off the bus contacted them. Police have confirmed they were called to the area around Ophir Road and London Road in North End at 10am where the man, from Southsea, was arrested on suspicion of having an offensive weapon in a public place. He has since been released from custody, but police said he remains under investigation. Anyone with information on the incident should call police on 101, quoting the crime reference 44180349887.
