Gas Leak in Shanklin Old Village closes Main Road to Ventnor

A major road linking Shanklin to Ventnor has been closed to all traffic following a suspected Gas Leak near to The Crab public house in the Old Villiage.
Drivers heading in and out of Ventnor will now have to travel via Wroxall as a result of the closure between the Old Villiage and Chine Avenue.

Southern Gas Networks have sent engineers to inspect and repair the damaged pipe. It is unclear if property and businesses have been affected by the leak.

A local diversion route has been set up High Street, Victoria Avenue, Godshill Road, Whiteley Bank, St Johns Road, Clarence Road, Newport Road, Ocean View Road, Mitchell Avenue, St Boniface Road, Leeson Road, Bonchurch Road, Cowleaze Hill and Church Road.

Local buses are also running a revised timetable: Southern Vectis say that their Route 3 service will not be able to serve between Shanklin Old Village and Chimney Steps. The Island Coaster will serve Chine Avenue and the Old Village then divert via Victoria Road.
