Fire crews and Coastguard Teams called to Fire on Shanklin Cliffs

Fire Crews from stations around the Island have been mobilised to a fire that has broken out on cliffs in Shanklin on the Isle of Wight. Fire crews from Shanklin and Ryde have been mobilised to tackle the developing fire that broke out just after 11 am on Wednesday, September 5th. Crews actions in tackling the blaze are being hampered due to the location. A number of crews have been sent for manpower in moving equipment. Firefighters crew from Ryde have been called to assist with setting up a rope pulley system to gain access to the blaze. A team from UK coastguard have also been mobilised to the incident near to the Fisherman’s Rest in Shanklin fire crews have used a hose reel to fight the fire. The fire was 20 metres by 5 metres and is understood to have been started by an incinerator ashes throw over the cliff.
