An arson probe has been launched after grassland was set at alight in a Newport woodland on Burnt House Lane this afternoon. A teenager from local Carisbrooke college has been named by a group teenager to starting the fire and running off.
The group alerted the fire service.
Two fire crews from Newport supported by retained fighters spent 40 minutes dealing with the blaze using a hose reel to stop the fire from spreading to a nearby tree line.
Crews were called just after 3pm on Saturday. An investigation between the fire service and Police has been launched. Firefighters remain at the scene damping down.
