Police helicopter and large police presences in Shanklin

Officers from Hampshire Constabulary and the national air support helicopter have been carrying out a late night search in Shanklin and Sandown area on the Isle of Wight. Three patrol cars and a van were seen at a property in the town. One person has been taken to hospital by Isle of Wight ambulance service. The incident unfolded just after 12.30am on Monday morning.
A dog and handler have also been searching a road near to the Shanklin railway station the search has been ongoing for the past 40 minutes. It is understood that the search may be in connection with an incident that happened on Thursday in the Shanklin- Lake area.

Claims have been made that a man has or had taken a 31-year-old woman hostage in the area.

Hampshire Constabulary has been approached for comment

UPDATE: The Police helicopter as returned for a second search this morning on a holiday park was sealed off for a short time whilst officers on the ground searched whilst being guided by the NPAS helicopter.

Hampshire Constabulary has issued the following statement: “Officers have been conducting enquiries through the night in the Shanklin area as part of an investigation into allegations of threats to life.

“No arrests have been made and enquiries are on-going.”

The allegations relate to an older offence and not an incident that occurred last night, said the spokesperson.
