Emergency services have been called to a road traffic collision involving two vehicles in Ryde in the early hours of Thursday morning.
The collision has taken place on the corner of Lind Street in Ryde. The road has been closed in both directions to assist emergency crews in freeing those trapped in one of the vehicles. The head-on collision happened just after 1 am.
The driver of a Ford Fiesta is understood to have been travelling up a one-way street the wrong way and lost control on the bend and ploughed the vehicle into a wall after hitting a red Ford transit connect head on. The driver of the connect is understood to be uninjured.
Two appliances from Ryde and an officer were mobilised to the incident. After making the vehicle safe Crews are using specialist cutting equipment to extricate and free those trapped in the vehicle.
Members of the Isle of Wight ambulance service have also been sent to the incident are working with firefighters.
Firefighters are carrying out a roof removal of the vehicle to free a rear seat passenger who is trapped in the wreckage of the white Fiesta.
Officers from Hampshire Constabulary have put in a hard road closure at Lind Street and West street and drivers are being asked to avoid the area and respect the closures in place. The road is likely to remain closed for collision scene investigation work.
