Bus Driver Rushed to Hospital following Medical Episode at the Wheel

An Isle of Wight bus driver has been rushed under blue light to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport with a suspected heart attacked after falling unwell at the wheel. The Newport bound Southern Vectis single deck bus that had twenty passengers on board and was on route to Newport when concerned passengers watched the driver collapsed at the wheel. One passenger who asked to not to be named said: There was a group of us we got on at Cowes by the time bus got to Horsebridge Hill the driver’s face has lost all his colour he was white as a sheet. I went and spoke to the driver who said he fell really unwell. His skin looked very clammy. He (the driver) had managed to stop the bus safely and pulled the bus on to the pavement. I could see this was serious. I didn’t think twice I just called 999 for an ambulance. Paramedics from the Isle of Wight ambulance service have attended and taken the driver under blue light to the nearby St Mary’s hospital. The bus has been recovered back to the station by a relief driver. Traffic in the area that was building is now easing
