M271 Motorway in Southampton closed Southbound after Lorry Shed it’s load

The M271 in Southampton,Hampshire is closed southbound between junctions of the M27 J3 (Nursling) and the A33/A35 (Redbridge Roundabout) for recovery work and cleanup following an HGV shedding its load. The closure is expected to be in place until at lease 6.30am to aid recovery and clean up operation.


Recovery contractors RD Avery are working on behalf of Highways England to recover the container that fell from it’s trailer blocking lane one of the M271.


Diversions are available with traffic heading to Redbridge, Totton and Testwood areas advised to leave the M27 at J2 and join the A326 and A36 roads heading southbound for these areas.

Traffic intending to leave the M271 at J1 for Hilly Fields and Nursling areas is advised to leave the M27 at J3 and follow the solid black triangle symbol via the M271 north to Upton, and taking the A3057 southbound for Nursling. Road users should allow some extra time for your journey.
