Emergency services have rushed to Millhill Road in Cowes this afternoon to free two trapped. Resources from all three emergency services have been sent to a be Incident that happened just after 4pm. Fire crews are using specialist hydraulic cutting equipment to free two people trapped between a tree and a house.
Crews are cutting the roof off the vehicle to free two retired people. Both is their sixties have been freed and handed to the Isle of Wight ambulance for treatment by Paramedics. The blue Mazda 323 remains trapped between a tree and a garden wall. Firefighters have removed the roof of the vehicle to extricate the occupants, a male and a female, who are now being conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital by ambulance.
It is thought the driver of the Mazda suffered a medical episode at the wheel, causing the single vehicle collision.
Jeff Walls, for the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has described the incident as fairly complex, with the point of access for the extrication proving challenging due to the location of the vehicle. Firefighters still had access to the driver’s door and stabilisation of the vehicle was not required due the vehicle being on four wheel and being trapped between the tree and the garden wall
Fire crews accessed gardens to surround the vehicle for a safe and swift extrication.
