A34 closed in both directions in Oxfordshire following serious collision

A34 Oxfordshire will remain closed for some time in both directions between the M40 and Peartree Interchange following a serious collision. Police have confirmed that the section of road will remain closed for a number of hours well into the early hours on Friday morning following a serious collision. The drivers involved have escaped with minor injuries.

The closure is in both directions between the M40 J9 and the A44 (Peartree Interchange) near Oxford due to a serious collision incident. Thames Valley Police are managing the incident with Highways England working with the police and other emergency services. The road is expected to be closed for a number of hours.

Due to roadworks closure already installed, the A34 southbound carriageway is now effectively closed from the M40 J9 through to the A423 at Kennington, west of Oxford. M40 southbound traffic bound for the south of England may wish to consider the wider strategic route, M40 south to J4, A404/A404(M) south to M4 at J8/9 and taking the M4 west to J13 at Chieveley.

A local diversion is available for A34 northbound traffic via Oxford with road users advised to leave the A34 northbound at the Hinksey Hill Interchange and to follow the solid black diamond symbol, joining the A423 (Oxford Southern By-pass) heading east to the A4142 (Eastern By-Pass Rd). Then joining the A4142 to continue east then north to the A40 (London Road) at Headington. Merging onto the A40 to travel south to the M40 (Oxford Services Interchange) to finally take the link road to the M40 J8A where traffic can re-join the M40 north carriageway.

Road users for both directions may wish to consider alternative routes and should allow extra time for your journey.

Traffic is now being relieved so if you’re in the queue you will be moving shortly
