Police Name Pilot Killed in Helicopter Crash


Police have named the pilot who died in a helicopter crash in North Yorkshire yesterday.

Officers were called to the incident, in a crop field near Aldborough, Boroughbridge, at 1.23pm yesterday, Wednesday 30 May.

Fire and ambulance crews also attended.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: β€œOne man, believed to be the pilot of the private aircraft, was pronounced dead at the scene. No further casualties have been reported.

β€œOfficers have cordoned off the area and conducted a search of the area.

β€œWhilst we await formal identification, we believe the pilot who died is Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for North Yorkshire, Mr Barry Dodd CBE.

β€œOur thoughts are with his family at this difficult time and request that their privacy is respected.”
