Murdered Hayling Island Restaurant Worker Named as Abbas Ali

A 65 year old male who police say died of a head injury in the early hours of Saturday morning has been named as Abbas Ali.

As a result of paramedics being called in the early hours of Saturday morning, Abbas Ali was rushed to Queen Alexandra Hospital, but sadly died on Saturday Morning.


Police arrested three men on suspicion of murder who have subsequently been bailed whilst they continue their enquiries.

Workers at the restaurant have paid tribute to the man, saying “We have not only lost a work colleague, we have lost a very good friend”.

Police sealed the Gandhi Restaurant in Hollow Road, whilst forensic teams scoured the restaurant for evidence of any foul play. Scenes of Crime Officers are taking particular interest into a side alley within the restaurant premises.

Police also made a direct appeal to anyone who used the eatery on Friday morning to come forward with any information that may assist with the investigation.
