A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was called to rush a 47-year-old man to hospital in the early hours of this morning after a game of pool turned sour.
Police were called to Station Road, on Hayling Island, just after midnight after reports of a stabbing.
Officers arrested a 48-year-old Hayling Island man shortly afterwards on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in custody at this time.
Residents reported hearing the air ambulance landing on West Town Field at approximately 1.30am.
A Havant man remains in a critical but stable condition at Southampton General Hospital.
The landlady of the West Town Inn said, “Two friends fell out over a game of pool. One of the gentlemen left and the other a short time later.
“An alarm was raised not long after to us to say someone was laying outside injured, this turned out to be one of those men. My husband and a few of our regular customers ran to apply first aid until the ambulance arrived.
“It’s not confirmed what happened as no one witnessed it and it was down the road out of sight of our CCTV.
“The front of the pub has tape around in case they can find any evidence to assist with this assault.”
Detectives are keen to speak to anyone who was in the West Town Inn last night between 11pm and 12.10am.
Anyone with information or who was in the pub last night is asked to call police on 101, quoting 441 7045 9841.
