Eastern Road is currently closed Northbound from the junction with Anchorage Park is closed this lunchtime following an unsafe road sign flapping in the wind.
The road closure has been put in place due to an unsafe 4 meter Black and White Information Road sign that has started flapping in the wind. It is understood that the sign has been or is likely to have been struck by a passing Lorry.
Portsmouth City Council Contractors “COLAS” are working with Highways to make the sign safe. Safety is paramount said a spokesman for “COLAS” We have a number of options. We are hoping to secure the sign and the make it safe and remove at a later date. The Worse case is the sign with have to be remove and the closure is likely to be in place for the next couple of hours. We understand that Eastern Road is a very busy and important road and we are working to get the road reopen as soon as possible. We also have to put drivers and the publics’ safety first.
The closure follows yesterday collision that brought gridlock to the city. The Eastern Road was closed for over 4 hours following a serious three vehicle collision.
