Seventy firefighters battle Purley Building blaze

Ten fire engines and 72 firefighters and officers have been called to a fire in Brighton Road in Purley.

The Brigade was called at 3pm and sent ten fire appliances to the incident from London and Calling on the support of Surrey


Fire crews from Croydon, Norbury, Sutton, Wallington, Addington and other surrounding fire stations are at the scene.

The cause of the fire is not known at this stage. but it is understood that a builder was working in the roof space and raised the alarm following works setting fire to an area. It is further understood that two flat have been damaged by fire and two shop have been left with smoke and water damage
