Police and Highways England have closed the M3 Motorway northbound Bagshot following a serious single vehicle collision. Emergency crews rushed to the incident just before 11am on Wednesday morning.
Surrey Fire and Rescue sent to appliances to the incident but confirmed that the driver was not trapped. The Kent and Surrey Air ambulance also attended the scene and it is understood that the driver was flown to hospital with serious injuries. Roadworker’s narrowly escaped being hit by the vehicle as it ploughed into cones and closure signs.
A South East Coast Ambulance spokesman said: ” we were called to an incident on the M3 London bound just after junction 3.
“We sent ambulance crews in two paramedic cars and one ambulance, police are also in attendance for the incident involving a van and a car.
“A patient has been taken into St Peter’s Hospital in a serious condition.”
Highways England urged motorists to consider alternative routes and warn to expect delays.
Traffic is being diverted via the “Solid Diamond” diversion symbol.
A spokesman said: “This closure may be in place for some time, and is expected to cause delays.
“Road users should allow additional time for their journeys and consider alternative routes where possible.”
Police have said that the closure is likely to remain in place for sometime whilst collision and accident investigation work is carried out
