The fire in the front garden of a Southsea property in the early hours of this morning spread to the house causing extensive damage to the windows.
It is understood that the fire started in the garden of the property in Waverley Road amongst rubbish and building materials. The building was in the process of being renovated and turned into apartments.
The blaze took hold just after 12.30am. The cellar and front of the building have received significant damage.
The property was unoccupied at the time, as building work was being carried out, and neighbours were safely evacuated.
Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service have not ruled out arson as being the cause of the significant blaze.
A spokesman for Hampshire Fire and Rescue said :”They were advised that it was a small fire in the open and sent a small fire vehicle to attended. Once crews had arrived and assessed the incident further appliances where mobilsed.
