The bodies of two Jack Russells have been retrieved from a flat following a fire in Portchester earlier today.
As reported earlier, police made three arrests as the blaze ripped through an upstairs flat, and damaged the flat beneath, at 20 Kenwood Road.
A police spokesman confirmed, “We were called at 10.42am to reports of a fire at a residential address on Kenwood Road, Portchester.
“Officers are currently working with the fire service at the scene.
“A 43-year-old man, a 44-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman have been arrested in connection with the incident and remain in custody at this time.”
Sources locally have named the council flat tenant, Sue Bailey, as the female arrested by the police. Neighbours suggest she was due for eviction on Thursday of this week.
The family living directly beneath the burnt-out flat have been overwhelmed with donations following fire damage to their own property.
“So upset after what has happened. Me, my partner and kids have lost quite a bit of stuff,” neighbour Zoe Carter said.
“Thank you everyone for all your kind regards and donations. We have got enough to get us through for now, thanks to all those that donated,” she added.
Six fire appliances, including an aerial platform, tackled the blaze, which the tenant has been arrested on suspicion of starting.
