Police are investigating a public order incident which took place in Havant Park last night.
A 20 year-old man was left with cuts and bruises to his head.
The victim was with three friends at around 8:30pm on Saturday 8 July when they were spoken to by a group of youths sitting on a bench. When the victim walked towards the toilet block in the park he was assaulted by a group of youths. It is understood that up to 30 people were in the area at the time. The victim is now recovering at home. Two of his friends were also left with minor injuries.
We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time or who may have mobile phone footage of what happened. We believe that the youths that were seen in the area were aged between 14 and 16. Many were wearing shorts and t-shirts, some were not wearing tops.

Investigating officer PC Peter Vincent from Havant’s Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “We believe that there a number of people who were in Havant Park at the time who may have seen what happened. We arrived at the scene within 90 seconds of the initial report being made to us, but the group that was in the area had already dispersed.
“I’m keen to locate any witnesses who have not spoken to us already. There is also a possibility that parents may have seen teenagers arriving home with minor injuries last night, could this be connected to our investigation? Please call us on 101 if you think you can help”.
Operation Syren is a year-long campaign being run by Havant’s Neighbourhood Policing Team to address concerns about anti-social behaviour in the town centre.
If you have children under the age of 18 please help us by following this advice:
· Before they go out, find out what your children are doing, where they are going, and when and how they will be getting home.
· Sometimes children do not consider the consequences of their actions, so ask them to think about whether they could be causing distress to others, damaging the environment or putting themselves in danger.
· Often children do not need to buy alcohol, they take it from home without their parents’ knowledge. Keep alcohol in a safe place and keep a check on how much you have, so that you will know if any goes missing.
· Young people are also often the victims of disorder, so if you or your child experience anti-social behaviour, make sure you report it to the police. We cannot send officers to every incident, but if you let us know what is happening in your area, we can make sure our resources are targeted effectively.
