Firefighters from across the country came together on Saturday (18 June) for a national skills challenge in Lincolnshire.
Taking place at Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue’s Waddington Training Centre, firefighters from Derby, West Midlands, Essex, Durham and Darlington and Lincolnshire, took on a number of 20 minute challenges testing their skills in dealing with road traffic accidents.

Testing skills and techniques, such as incident command as well as technical and medical response, the firefighters were tested under extreme pressure with scenarios involving large goods vehicles, large scale road traffic accidents and multiple casualty incidents.
Despite the overcast weather the teams taking part gave 100% performance the overall place was: 1st Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service, 2nd Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, 3rd place Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, 4th Durham and Darlington 5th Place West Midlands Fire and Rescue Service(Highgate).
Andy Dixon, station manager at Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, said : “These challenges are a great way for both our staff and firefighters from across the UK to be tested in extreme circumstances and under extreme pressure. It allows firefighters to learn new techniques and share knowledge with colleagues from across the UK, which ultimately allows Lincolnshire’s firefighters to upskill and deliver a better service to the communities of Lincolnshire.”
Teams will go onto the National UKRO event being held in September at Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service in Eastleigh, Hampshire.
